Umahi clears hospital bills for patients in Ebonyi

There was wild jubilation across the major hospitals within Ebonyi State as Governor David Umahi paid unscheduled visit to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FETHA 1 and FETHA 2) where he cleared medical bills of all patients who had been unable to pay their bills and return to their homes.

Governor Umahi who stormed the hospitals after church service at Christ Embassy Church, Abakaliki also used the occasion to visit the Coordinator of Ikwo South Development Centre, Marvin Anari who was abducted by some armed youths and tortured to coma described the incident as barbaric.

He called for full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the council boss and called on all security agencies to arrest and prosecute those behind the act.

Governor Umahi further warned that his administration will no longer tolerate anybody taking laws into his or hands in the name of politics and warned that those found culpable in the act would be dealt with to serve as deterrent to others.

“This type of barbaric action is highly condemnable and unacceptable by us as a people, we must fish out those who lost every sense of humanity in them to do this type of wicked things against a fellow man. I have directed the Commissioner of Police and other security chiefs in the state to move into the area and fish out those responsible for this evil act.”

The Governor also used the opportunity to go round the wards within the hospitals and settled the medical bills of indigent patients who were unable to pay their bills and made a cash donation of N500, 000 for feeding of all the patients in the hospital.

In a related development, Governor Umahi who returned to the Government house to inspect the level of work at the mushroom factory under construction in the state was moved by passion when he saw a pregnant woman among the women mixing concrete for the job and made instant cash donation of N200, 000 for the woman to start any business of her choice.

On sighting the woman, Governor Umahi ordered his convoy to stop and walked to the woman and ordered her to go home, adding that her condition was not good to continue with such tasking job and made a cash donation of N200, 000 to her and gave other labourers in the site N100, 000 for their lunch.

Mrs. Gloria Nwnakwo, a heavily pregnant woman from Ishieke in Ebonyi Local Government area who could not control her tears of joy over the governor’s gift said she was pushed into doing menial job to survive by poverty.
