Ugwuanyi, Okowa, Sultan applauds UNN on founders’ day celebration

The Governors of Enugu and Delta states Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa have applauded University of Nigeria, Nsukka for its contributions to national development as well in restoring the dignity of man.

The two governors made the commendation on Friday during a lecture marking the University of Nigeria Nsukka 57th founders Day dignity award lecture titled “Restoring the dignity of Man: Education as a veritable tool” which was delivered by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

Speaking on the achievement of the university Ugwuanyi said all hands must be on deck in sustaining the dreams of the founding fathers in restoring the dignity of man.
He said the university made excellent choice in selecting the sultan as the 57th dignity of man lecturer.

“We appreciate the sultan for coming to deliver this important lecture which shows the volume of love he has for UNN as well as Enugu State.
Okowa who was conferred with the dignity of man award said he was humbled for the university finding him worthy for the award.

“I am humbled by this award and will come back to put a physical structure in appreciation of this honour the university has done me, ” he said.

Earlier in his lecture the Sultan of Sokoto stated that there can be no development in the country without education.

“Countries that takes education serious tends to develop healthier and happier. Education will continue to be a veritable tool for human and societal development, “he said.
“Education is an instrument for national development and the interaction of persons and ideas are all aspects of education,” he said.

He said anybody Muslim who denounces knowledge has no place in Islam.
“They are the people we regard as ignorant and are the once who go about killing in the name of Islam.

“These are not the true Muslim as Islam as a religion abhors taking of anybody’s life” and “We cannot restore the dignity of man by killing people.

“The herdsmen killing people are criminals and not Fulani herdsmen. Anybody who kills while shouting Allah is a terrorist and not a true Muslim and the person will go to hell,
“Allah hates people who kill and said they will go to hell,” he said.

Also in a remark, the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba said the founders’ day lecture is an avenue for distinguished personalities in the country to address topical issues that were of great importance to the development of the country. “The founders’ day lecture is very important to the university which is while we invite notable Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in their chosen field to address some vital issues that are of national important
