President Bola Tinubu yesterday declared the end of the notorious “one chance” menace in Abuja, as he commissioned the ultra-modern Mabushi Bus Terminal in Mabushi District of Abuja.

The President, represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajuddeen Abass, said the terminal is a bold step toward urban security and economic empowerment in the Federal Capital Territory.

“It is with immense joy and a profound sense of fulfilment that I stand before you today… to commission a truly transformative project: the Mabushi Bus Terminal.

“This magnificent edifice, one of three such modern bus and taxi terminals in our beloved Federal Capital Territory, represents far more than just a transportation hub. It is a tangible symbol of our unwavering commitment to the safety, security, and prosperity of every resident of Abuja.” The President said.

Tinubu decried the years of chaos and danger faced by commuters due to the informal transport system in the capital city, which led to traffic congestion and gave room for criminal activities, especially the “one chance” robberies.

He revealed that the Mabushi Terminal, alongside the Kugbo terminal which is also ready for commissioning, will bring order and accountability to the city’s public transport sector.

“With the completion of the Mabushi Bus Terminal and the Kugbo terminal, which I have been informed is also ready for commissioning, we are taking decisive steps to bring order, accountability, and safety to public transportation.

“No longer will our citizens be left to the mercy of impromptu pick-up points; they will now have a secure, well-regulated environment to board their vehicles, knowing that both the drivers and the vehicles are known and registered. This is a critical stride in our broader efforts to clean up our city and enhance urban security.” he said.

Beyond security, Tinubu emphasized the economic impact of the project, noting that over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs were created during construction.

“This initiative has put food on tables and rekindled hope for countless families,” he said, adding that job creation remains a core component of his Renewed Hope Agenda.

The President said the terminal offers more than just transportation services, highlighting its state-of-the-art facilities.

“It will feature integrated commercial activities, including areas for relaxation… amenities such as cinema halls where commuters can unwind, and other essential services. “These are the state-of-the-art facilities that a capital city like Abuja truly deserves.”

He reserved special commendation for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, whose “vision, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence” he praised.

“His commitment to providing first-class infrastructure for Abuja is evident in the quality and speed of delivery we celebrate today,” Tinubu said.

The President also acknowledged the contractors, Planet Projects, and every worker involved in bringing the terminal to life. “Your efforts have transformed this vision into a magnificent reality,” he said.

“As we inaugurate the Mabushi Bus Terminal, we are not just opening a building; we are opening a new chapter for public transportation in Abuja.

“We are reaffirming our promise to provide a city where citizens can live, work, and commute with dignity, safety, and efficiency.”

President Tinubu, however, urged residents and transport operators to embrace the terminal and its vision.

“With these words, it gives me immense pleasure to formally commission the Mabushi Bus Terminal for the use and benefit of all,” he said.
