Three years after, bandits renew manhunt for alleged informant

By Austin Danladi

At least three persons were reported dead when rampaging bandits attacked the residence of a middle aged man, Menchang Amos Bako, from Langtan village, in Tarok L.G.A of Plateau State.

Menchang, a resident of Plateau State, but resident in Kano, was similarly attacked in 2021 by bandits who accused him of being an informant to security agencies.

Our correspondent reported then that Menchang, a talented goalkeeper and his family members were attacked by the terrorists after they were labelled informants.

A source privy to the incident told our correspondent that the deadly group attacked Menchang’s uncle and his family in Kano State, murdering five of them in the process.

Although the footballer escaped from his attackers then, it was not without deadly injuries.

Latest information revealed that the hoodlums returned to his residence three years later, precisely on February 8, 2024, and unleashed another deadly attack on residents.

A community leader, John Bakare told our correspondent that “the hoodlums said they were looking for one Menchang Amos Bako. We told him that we last saw him about four years ago.

“They insisted that he was still living in the neighborhood; as tension escalated, tempers rose and there was confrontation by angry residents, leading to the death of three persons- Adamu Mohammed, Shehu Idris and Gabko Yusuf.

“Several other persons were also injured during this unprovoked attack.

“We are calling on the police to leave no stone unturned in fishing out the people behind this mayhem.”

While decrying the attack on his peaceful community, he lamented that “Menchang Amos Bako was a peaceful and easy going person within our neighbourhood throughout the time he lived with us.”
