There are thieves in government – Babalola

A former governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State, Engineer Sunday Adebayo Babalola, has said that there are ‘thieves’ in government even as he pleaded for more concern for the masses.

He advised political office holders to work for the progress of the people, adding that one day, they would die and would not know anything else about their acquired wealth.

Babalola stated this at his installation as the Baba Egbe of the Anglican Cathedral Church of St. Paul (Church of Nigeria) in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government of Kwara State at the weekend.

Our correspondent, gathered that the Bishop, Cathedral of St. Paul Anglican Church, Omu-Aran Diocese, Right Rev. Philip Adeyemo, who installed Babalola said the new Baba Egbe was adjudged right for the honour given his commitment to human capital development and the growth of Christianity as well as the overall societal development.

The Bishop urged Babalola to live up to expectations and continue to fly the flag of Christianity and continue to carry the torch if societal well-being of our people.

He charged the new Baba Egbe to work towards the progress of the Church, promote love, unity and peace in the society. Babalola said he was elated being recognized and honoured.

In his remarks, the new Baba Egbe stated that he would remain commitment to the growth of Christianity.

According to him, “We are very elated and we are very grateful to God who found us worthy to be chosen by him and we thank the church for recognizing the little that we have been doing before and we thank the whole of Anglican Church, Omu-Aran Diocese for everything they have doing for us.

“To Christianity, our commitment is total. We are going to be doing more than we have been doing before. We have a church in Lagos too, which is a vibrant church and that means that we have double responsibility to work in Lagos and Omu Aran at the same time. We are very committed, absolutely and totally, with our resources and everything that God has blessed us with.”

He added, “We are going to be changing everything, not change the doctrine. But we are going to be encouraging more youths. My wife, Bunmi, is already doing that. I think that is one of the reasons why they saw us fit for this honour. She comes here, participate in youth programme. She encourages the youth and she has been doing it for a long time now.”

Speaking further, Babalola noted that, “Eminent people should do their best to empower the youths. We are doing our own. We do scholarship, we have a foundation and we do what we can by the grace of God. I think people should emulate it and do what they can.”

“We need to remind them (politicians) that there will be a day they will wake up and not be able to lead themselves and people will carry them to the grave and they will answer to their maker.

“Enough is enough, they should do the right thing. They should ensure prudential management of resources, distribute our resources right and do what is right to people. They are holding those positions in trust, it is not their father’s right. It is in trust and they should try to make sure that they use the resources right.

“Don’t let me forget the thieves are government, (they should) change their ways, hell is real, life is ephemeral. It is only mad men that go around town gathering the things they will never need and will never use.
