Teenager, 5 others in court over alleged public disturbance

Six men, including a teenager, on Monday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged public disturbance. The defendants – Ahmed Dauda, 20, Yusuf Jamiu, 20, Tosin Akinyoola, 25, Taoridi Abolarinwa, 29, Usman Azeez; 30 and Opeyemi Ojo, 16 – were charged with disturbance of public peace. The defendants were all residents of Orile Iganmu, Surulere, Lagos. ‎The Prosecutor, Sgt. Christopher Okoliko, told the court that the defendants committed the offences between Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, along Iganmu Road, Sari Orile and Adeleye St., Orile, Surulere Lagos. He said that the defendants were arrested following ceaseless complaints of public disturbance in the areas. Okoliko said the offence contravened Section 168 (1) (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Folarin-Williams, granted each of the defendants N20, 000 bail with one surety each in like sum. Folarin-Williams said the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until March 25 for mention. (NAN)
