Teams receive boost at Bishop Mike Okonkwo Cup

All the teams participating in the Round of 32 matches of the Season 15 of the annual Bishop Mike Okonkwo Football Competition currently going on at the play ground of the National Institute for Sports (NIS) Lagos has been provided with brand new jerseys.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the tournament, Deacon Malachy Ndubuzor, stated that the gesture was in keeping to the tradition of the organisers to ensure that teams did not have problem of jerseys during their matches.

“I’m happy that we had a successful first round which involved 64 teams with each of them giving a good account of themselves. Many fantastic goals were scored and fans enjoyed the football artistry exhibited by the players.

“To ensure a successful and more glamorous game, all the teams that qualified for the Round of 32 has been provided with brand new jerseys courtesy of Fuman Agricultural Products Limited and we believe it will motivate them to put in their best,” he stated.

He advised the teams to maintain their level of discipline till the finals which comes up on September 2, at the Yaba College of Technology even as he reminded them about the charge given to them by the presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, Bishop Mike Okonkwo on the need to play to the rules of the game.

In the first round of 32 matches decided at the competition, Honour FC lost by 1-3 to Great Africa, while Shallon Eleven and Maryland FC played a 1-1 draw. Also matches involving Potters FC versus Hephzbah FC and Fitness FC versus William Fella FC all ended in goalless draws respectively.

Meanwhile, Don Jay white washed Elevation FC 6-0 in a one sided affair while Choice FC lost 0-3 to Sanjasson FC also in the first round of 32 matches

Action will continue in the tournament on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the same venue.
