Taliban must stick to peace deal or NATO stays, says Stoltenberg

Zagreb – NATO’s Secretary- General, Jens Stoltenberg, on Wednesday urged the Talibans to honour the commitments it struck with the U.S, being a pre-condition for the alliance to commence withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“The peace deal is an opportunity to open negotiations among Afghans and achieve sustainable peace, the Taliban must honour their commitments.

“We need to see a reduction in violence and avoid undermining the agreement.

“We will only reduce our presence if the Taliban adhere to the agreement they signed. We are ready to reduce if the Taliban meet the conditions from the agreement,” he said.(dpa/NAN)
