STF, Nigeria Prison Synergise To Boost Security

The Special Task Force, mandated to restore peace on the Plateau, yesterday strengthened its relationship with the Nigeria Prisons, aimed at boosting security within the state.
According to the STF Commander, Major Gen. Rogers Nicholas, said the visit to the Nigeria Prisons is to collaborate and fashion out ways to further Promote the synergy between both security outfits.
Gen, Nicholas who inspected an impressive dog parade by officers of the Nigeria Prisons, said dogs play essential security roles.
He is quoted as saying that the issues of drugs, illegal weapons and so many other vices can be checked with the use of dogs.
“They can be used to gather more intelligence and make arrests”, he said.
Earlier, the Controller of Prisons, Plateau State, Mr. Noel Ailewon, said the visit is timely as it is coming at the time when he is resuming office as the Controller of the State.
However, he laud the State Judiciary for facilitating an effective and speedy trial of inmates.
His words, “in other states, you will find that about 80 percent of inmates are awaiting trail but in Plateau, you will see that we have more of convicts than awaiting trail”.
He revealed that out of the 973 inmates, 28 are lifer, 283 are convicted, 444 are awaiting trial and 217 are condemn criminals.
Also, as part of activities that herald the visit of the STF Commander, was a novelty match between inmates and the STF football team.
Ailewon, said the essence is to showcase the synergy between both security agencies.
