Society gist: Tokini Peter’s undying passion

By: Ajibade Alabi

Soft- spoken Tokini Peterside is one silver spoon well famous for her toil as a media and public relations aficionado than her pedigree as daughter of billionaire banking mogul, Mr. Atedo Peterside.

As the Director of the Tp collective, a consulting firm that builds businesses and brands in the culture and luxury sectors in Africa, her client list boasts of Hennessy; Moet & Chandon; Veuve Clicquot; Dom
Perignon; Belvedere; Alara, the fashion and life style concept store and Maki oh, famous fashion
designer to mention a few.

She also runs fashion auction House which specializes in luxury fashion
accessories. One thing she is passionate about is charity and the proceeds from her fashion house go to
the less privileged. Tokini has equally become a force to reckon with when it comes to promoting
African arts and artists.

The 32-year-old daughter of Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc founder, who was once
described by London’s The Times as ‘the woman putting Lagos on the art map’, has developed a passion
in sustaining the lifeline of Nigerian artists which makes her to pioneer one of the largest art fairs in
Africa, Art X Lagos, -an art festival and exhibition designed to widen Nigeria’s connection to the
contemporary art scene across Africa and intentionally, and to position Lagos as an emergent cultural
capital on the African continent.

Through the fair, one of Tokini’s goals is to encourage the increasing
number of wealthy Africans to see themselves as collectors and see art as an investment. She is ready to
host this year’s edition of the ART X Lagos in conjunction with Access Bank, tagged the ‘ART X Prize with
Access’ to recognize and support the best of emerging Nigerian visual art talent.
