Smart Energies Expands Into Renewables, Launches Clean Mobility Solutions

BY SAMUEL MOBOLAJI

Smart Energies has announced a major expansion of its operations from mass deployment of clean cooking gas to renewable energy solutions designed to transform energy access, affordability, and sustainability across Nigeria.

As part of its new programme, the company has rolled out electric motorcycles, solar-powered charging stations, prepaid cooking gas subsidy cards, and a mobile app that brings clean and affordable energy closer to households and communities.

Chief Executive Officer, Dr Yinka Opeke, said the expansion aligns with Smart Energies’ growth strategy to redefine energy access through innovation, inclusivity, and social impact. She described the company’s vision as one that empowers communities, not just powers homes and businesses.

Dr Opeke, a disruptive entrepreneur and strategist, noted that Smart Energies is positioning itself as one of Nigeria’s leading woman-owned indigenous energy firms by integrating renewable energy and clean mobility into its business model.

She explained that the launch of electric motorcycles and flexible lease-to-own rental plans will enable delivery riders and entrepreneurs to embrace clean mobility without prohibitive upfront costs. In addition, the prepaid gas subsidy cards are aimed at cushioning the economic pressure on households by making clean cooking fuels affordable, accessible, and transparent.

“This innovation is critical in preventing families from reverting to firewood and other harmful fuels due to rising costs. By making clean energy more affordable, Smart Energies is protecting health, preserving the environment, and ensuring energy equity,” Opeke stated.

She further stressed that the company operates with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles at its core, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Past initiatives include the Trash-for-Gas campaign, which distributed more than 70,000 cooking gas cylinders, and nationwide LPG safety training.

The Smart Energies Mobile App, she added, integrates services for clients, drivers, and gas retailers, ensuring real-time access to safe and clean energy solutions across all 36 states and the FCT.

Dr Opeke emphasised that collaboration remains vital for scaling these initiatives. “The challenges of market development are too vast for one company to solve alone. That’s why we are calling on government, development agencies, investors, and corporate entities to partner with us in accelerating sustainable energy adoption,” she said.
