Shun unecessary Self-distractions, Falegan Counsels Fayose

As the workers strike over unpaid salary  in Ekiti state  continue indefinately, a United Kingdom based Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain from Ekiti State, Hon Opeyemi Falegan has called on Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State to shun unnecessary self-distractions but rather make regular payment of the State workforce a priority.

Falegan who made the call in a release made available to newsmen in Ado Ekiti, said the  call became imperative following the industrial action embarked on by the State Civil servants over non payment of five months salary arrears and allowances.

The development came few days after the national Strike called by NLC/TUC over the increase in the pump price of petrol from 86 naira to 145 naira per litre by the federal government has just been called off for further negotiation between the labour Unions and government.

“It is reponsibility of every responsible and responsive government to accord the plights of its citizenry, especially the Civil servants a priority in order to encourage and motivate them in the course of their duties”.

The idea and new style of owing civil servants,  months of salaries and allowances by some State governors across the Country is becoming unacceptable and uncouth, especially in the eye of the current skyrocketing prices of goods and services which has resulted in untold hardship on the People.

It is an understatement or to say the least, that Nigerians are suffering in the midst of abundance now and for any state governor to, at the same time, look other way in pretence by not paying salaries and allowances of the workers, as and when due is nothing but wickedness and barbaric.

Hon. Falegan while calling on workers to seek more audience with the Governor in the interest of the State, commended them for their perseverance, committment and peaceful conduct at pressing home their demands at all times.

The exceptionary conduct of Ekiti State Workers towards the present administration in the State must be commended, hence the need for the government at thesame time to compliment their efforts in this regards through prompt payment of their salaries in order to encourage and motivate them at all times.

The Governor must listen to the wailing and groaning of the Citizens by facing the issue of governance squarely and shun unnecessary self- distractions that cannot bring any positive development to the State.

I think, Governor Fayose is more concerned about party politics than real governance he was elected to perform and part of the consequences is the on-going industrial action by the state workers on salary arrears of five months.

There is difference between Party and Government but the moment, one person wants to be the governor and at the same performing all the functions of the Party Executive members, there will surely be lapses and counter productive in the course of governance, hence slow down the pace of development in the State.

The Scion of Octogenarian, Ojo Falegan however solicit more peaceful co-existence among the People of the State for a rapid development, saying no meaningful development could be witnessed in an atmosphere devoid of Peace and Unity.
