Security Challenges: Sacking of Service Chiefs not best option – Monarch

Oba Adekunle Oyelude, the Olowu Kuta in Osun, said on Thursday that the call by the National Assembly for the sacking of Service Chiefs was not the best solution to insecurity in the country.

The monarch, in a statement in Osogbo, said the nation’s security challenges need holistic appraisal rather than a quick fix.

He described the call for the sack as hasty and a transferred aggression to the service chiefs, who had sacrificed a lot to defend the country.

The monarch said stampeding them out of office was not the best way to appreciate their efforts.

Oyelude, however, said that the security architecture of the country need to be overhauled for optimum performance, adding that the military alone should not be blamed for the lapses.

He said, “The Senate and House of Representatives motions that the service chiefs should resign or be sacked is not the best way to appreciate their efforts.

“The danger inherent in such motions is that it will demoralise them and make officers and men to feel let down.’’

According to him, it is clear that the military is overstretched.

“I think we need to do a critical appraisal of the insurgents with a view of proffering lasting solution that will be in the interest of all and sundry.

“We need to tell ourselves the truth; instead of resorting to fire brigade approach of treating the symptoms, we need holistic treatment to tackle the issues,’’ he said.
