S’Court affirms Dickson’s election victory

The Supreme Court on Tuesday in a unanimous decision upheld the election of Governor Sarike Dickson as the duly elected Governor of Bayelsa State having won the  December  6 2015 governorship election conducted in the State.

Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed who delivered the lead judgment said that he found no merit in the appeal filed by Chief Timipre Sylva of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

“Having considered all the issues raised I came to the conclusion that this appeal lacks merit and is hereby dismissed,” he held.
Justice Mohammed ordered all parties in the appeal to bear their cost.
In a related judgments also delivered Tuesday by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun and Justice Kayode Ariwola the apex court unanimously dismissed the appeal filed by Governor Dickson and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who have sought in the appeal to bar Sylva from the electoral contest having allegedly won two previous governorship election in the state.

Justices Mohammed, Ariwola and Kekere-Ekun reserved their reasons for their decisions till November 18.

It could be recalled that the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division had in October this year affirmed the judgment of Bayelsa Gtate Governoship Election Tribunal that Seriake Dickson was validly elected as governor of the State.
