SARS operatives shoot one, arrests six in Lagos

Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Lagos State Police Command have reportedly shot at one Agbodemu Musbau, a resident of Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.

The Daily Times gathered that the operatives stormed Jones Street in Ebute Metta Lagos Mainland on Friday evening, shooting sporadically in the air before arresting some residents in the community.

Musbau who is the community leader had rushed out to ascertain the cause of the shooting. Unfortunately while trying to inquire the cause of the shooting from one of the officers; he was instantly shot at.

Information has it that apart from Musbau who was shot at, another resident narrowly escaped death, while other residents identified as Seun Adetope Williams, Akibu Bankole Tola, Deji Dosunmu Gbenga, Richardson Adigun Kunle, Olusokan Adeolu Malakkhiyah, Olusodo Ibrahim Fasesan, Victoria Ibezim-Ohaeri, Betty Abah Adebayo, Waidi Gbenro and Akinlade Babafemi were arrested and whisked away like common criminals by the team of policemen.

According to Musbau who is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, “I was at my house about 6:00pm on March 3rd when I heard that members of Lagos SARS were shooting and arresting people in my community Jones Street. As the leader of the community and a member of a community security groups (VIGILANTE Lagos State Public relations officers and a strong member of the P. C. R. C Area C Command , I went out to met the SARS officers to know the reasons behind their action – this is to know if I could help them identify anyone peradventure if it is a criminal case.

Instead of receiving answers to my questions, he shot at me. They left with six members of the community. Later heard they said each person would be released with a bail of over a hundred thousand naira each from one Supol Bola”.

Lamenting Musbau asked, “when has it become a crime to speak as a Nigerian? Why do I have to be shot by those who are supposed to ensure I am safe and secured just because I asked a question? How can I categorically say these ones are security officers and not hoodlums? These are the mode of operations of Boko Haram sect, herdsmen and kidnappers, but I’m still amazed security operatives could do that. Are security officers supposed to act like hoodlums or kidnappers.

“How would you shot at an individual who only seeks to know the truth? How could it be ascertained they were security officers if they cannot talk about their mission? They could have been hoodlums or kidnappers disguised as security officers to take people unlawfully and request for a huge amount of money for them to be released. Just as I am happy that I haven’t bid the world farewell, I still cannot recover from the shock of the quagmire we are in this country”.

Sources however, has it that two of the resident who were arrested have been released after one paid a hundred thousand naira and the other fifty thousand. While the other are being detained for an unknown offence at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) cell.
