Salesgirl in Court for Allegedly Stealing N3.3m

A salesgirl, Ngozi Ugodu, 29, on Thursday appeared before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, charged with alleged theft of N3.3 million belonging to her employer.

Ugodu, who resides at Idi-Oro, Mushin, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, told the court that the accused was an employee of one Chinedu Agbanugo, and worked as a salesgirl at a shop located at No. 35 Anjorin St., Ikate, Surulere, Lagos.

“Ugodu worked as Agbanugo’s salesgirl and was required to remit money from sales to the company’s account. The accused did not remit N3.3 million to the company’s account between Sept. 12, 2013 and Sept. 4, 2014. She stole printing materials and boards valued at N2.1 million and 1.2 million naira cash.”

The prosecutor said that the accused was arrested after it was discovered she had converted money belonging to her employer to her personal use.

Nwosu said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011, which he said, attracted three years imprisonment on conviction.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Oshinbajo, granted bail to the accused in the sum N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case till April 4 for mention.
