RUMOURS: Rooney to be dropped by Southgate for Slovenia clash

England’s captain and record goalscorer was booed by a section of supporters against Malta and could start on the bench in Ljubljana on Tuesday night

England captain Wayne Rooney is set to be dropped for England’s upcoming clash against Slovenia, according to Sky Sports.

The Manchester United man struggled in the 2-0 victory over Malta on Saturday, with a section of supporters at Wembley jeering the Three Lions’ all-time record goalscorer.

And Rooney may now have to settle for a place among the substitutes as Gareth Southgate prepares to field a midfield duo of Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson in Ljubljana.
