RTEAN warns commuters against non-vetted commercial rides

The Lagos State branch of the Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has warned commuters against taking rides from the roadsides instead of approved motor parks before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos, the chairman of RTEAN, Lagos State branch, Musa Mohammed, attributed the plague of ‘one chance’ motorists in Lagos and environs to the shortage of motor parks in the state and undue intimidation from military men who turned themselves drivers overnight without caring about whose horse is gored.

He believed that there can be a lasting solution to the trend if government at various levels joined transport unions to combat it.

Mohammed expressed displeasure over the attitude of commuters who catch seemingly cheap rides by the roadside only to blame transport union bodies for the consequence.

“You know what is right but refuse to do it and follow the wrong thing, and you end up blaming transport union bodies or government ‎for your personal mistakes,” he said.
