Robber arms self with cutlass, gun to steal techno handsets, others

An Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday remanded Olubusi Oluyide, 31, in prison custody over alleged armed robbery.

The Prosecutor, Insp Christian Olajide, told the court that the accused committed the offence on August 4, 2014 around 2:00 am at Oke-yidi, area, Ondo road, Ile-Ife.

Olajide said that the accused conspired with other to commit felony to wit – Armed Robbery.

He added that the accused armed himself with dangerous weapons such as gun and cutlasses to robbed one Alhaji Tajudeen Adediran and his wife of the total sum of N248, 000.

According to him, the accused person armed himself with dangerous weapons like gun and cutlasses to rob one Sarat Akindele, of N2, 500, 1000 cefa, two techno handsets, one Nokia handset and 15 yards of lace.

Olajide stated further that the accused armed himself with dangerous weapon which are: gun and cutlasses to robbed one Akeem Abolowotan of total sum of N56, 000.

The prosecutor explained that the accused armed himself with dangerous weapon such as: gun and cutlasses to rob one Olayinka Olanrewaju of one Samsung handset, two BlackBerry handsets, four Nokia handsets and two laptops total valued N370, 000.

Olajide said that the offence was contrary to and punishable under sections 1 (1), (2), (a), (b) and 6 (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Vol 14 Laws of Federation, 2004.

Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode did not take the plea of the accused, saying his court lacked jurisdiction to try the capital offence like armed robbery.

Ijiyode asked the prosecutor to duplicate the case file to the office of the Ministry of Justice for legal advice.

He, therefore, ordered for the remand of the accused person in prison custody till June 22, for mention.
