Rescue Igbo from herdsmen, Nwafor-Orizu tells Buhari
A constitutional lawyer, Prince Orji Nwafor-Orizu has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to come to the rescue of south easterners from the hands of Fulani herdsmen who have been allegedly killing them in their homes over the time.
While quoting Section 33 (1) of the constitution, he said that the constitutional purpose of any government was security and welfare.
The lawyer gave this charge in a press statement on Tuesday in Abuja, insisting that the president should as a matter of national importance and urgency take proactive action before the affected communities would retaliate, which according to him, would not be good for the country.
The Nnewi-born prince, however, said that the call on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and other security chiefs to do their works was not enough, adding that he has observed with dismay and worry the fact that the federal government failed to take prompt action during similar attacks in other parts of the country, that the attack in Uzuwani Local Government Area of Enugu state occurred.
He, however, called on Mr. President, governors, security agencies and the affected communities, to ensure that judicial of inquiry is set up immediately to find out the root cause and the culprits must be made to face justice, saying the attack was obviously an organised crime.
The lawyer also recommended that the federal government should pay adequate compensations to the affected communities, urging the governors of the affected states to meet President Buhari toward finding lasting solutions to the menace.
He also assured the affected communities of his willingness to assist them legally until justice is done, as he did when six Igbo youths were allegedly killed by the police in Abuja some years back.
Orji Nwafor-Orizu therefore urged president-general, traditional rulers and leaders of thought in the affected communities to ensure that their people are vigilant at all times.
