*Ask COAS to set up military base in Balmo forest
House of Representatives on Wednesday tasked the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, to as a matter of urgency ensure the rescue of the kidnapped students from a Lagos state school.
This is also as they urged the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defense Staff, the Inspector General of Police and the Commandant-General of Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps to deploy security personnel to flush out bandits hiding in the Balmo forest, Bauchi state.
The House while acting on a Motion, ‘Spate of Kidnapping in Lagos State and the Recent Abduction of Six Students of Lagos State Model College, Igbonla, Epe,’ sponsored by Rep. Olawale Raji mandated the committees on Basic Education and Services, Police Affairs and Navy to pay a commiseration visit to the Lagos state government.
Also, to conduct an investigation into the state of insecurity in the riverine communities, waterways and schools in Lagos State and make recommendations on ways to permanently arrest the scourge of militancy and kidnapping in the state.
Speaking on the motion, Rep. Ige noted that the abduction of six students namely; Peter Jonah, Isiaq Rahmon, Adebayo George, Judah Agbausi, Pelumi Phillips and Farouq Yusuf of Lagos state Model College Igbonla, Epe by unknown gun men marked the second time the school was being attacked. He stated that the riverine communities in Lagos state were currently under siege.
He feared that if this spate of kidnaping is not arrested, it may pose a threat to the ongoing investments worth billions of dollars in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, which include the first indigenous private refinery in Nigeria and the Lekki Deep Sea Port.
The House in a unanimous decision agreed to the prayers of Rep. Ige which also included that the Lagos State Police Command be commended for its swift response to the incident.
In a similar vein, the House resolved to call on the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defense Staff, the Inspector General of Police and the Commandant-General of Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps to deploy security personnel to flush out the bandits hiding in the Balmo forest in Bauchi state.
