Report: Resumption of team training for Serie A clubs postponed

The resumption of team training for Serie A clubs was delayed after the Italian government’s scientific panel failed to greenlight the guidelines for team sports in time, news agency ANSA reported on Sunday.
The agency cited Sports Ministry sources as saying that the approval of the new coronavirus protocol would “probably” be given on Monday, delaying the start of team training sessions by 24 hours.
Meanwhile, teams will be able to continue individual workouts at teams’ camps, allowed from May 4 as the government began a gradual lifting of a two-month nationwide lockdown.
A point of contention between the ministry, the domestic football federation FIGC, Serie A and clubs has been the requirement for the whole group of footballers and staff to train for two weeks in isolation and the fact that team doctors could bear legal liability for possible contagion.
According to ANSA, Serie A submitted a proposal to include more testing for the new coronavirus.
Italian Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora earlier in the week complained about seemingly contradictory requests from Serie A teams to loosen the coronavirus protocol.
“[The resumption of team training] will happen according to a protocol that neither I nor the [government’s] scientific panel have proposed, but that, a month ago, was proposed to me by domestic federation FIGC and Serie A.

“Now I am surprised to learn that the Lega has difficulties to implement the protocol they proposed, mostly about teams going into retreat, but this is not something we requested.”
The Serie A has planned to resume the league on June 13 in accordance with the safety measures set by the government. (dpa)
