Raped Housewife Runs With Children To Avoid Family Rituals Intended To Avert Imminent Doom

A raped housewife in Benin City identified as Mrs.Theresa Osemanmhen Okoyo is reportedly on the run with her children after she was recently informed by her in-laws that she would undergo the mandatory spiritual cleaning to appease the gods and ancestors after she was recently raped by armed robbers in her matrimonial home in Obagie community in Benin City.

Mrs. Okoyo unfortunately became a rape victim on 29th day, March, 2024, in her matrimonial home when armed robbers broke into their apartment in Obagie community thereafter leaving her to face the dire consequences of the vile act which totally amounts to abomination and in certain situations ostracism in the culture and tradition of her husband’s family.

It was gathered that trouble however started for Mrs.Okoyo when her in-laws invited her husband to a family emergency meeting where critical issues bothering on her continued stay in the marriage after her rather unfortunate rape incident with the armed robbers were raised and discussed.

It was said that elders at the meeting unanimously agreed that as part of measures to avert imminent doom and calamity befalling her husband and other members of the family, certain rituals and oath taking involving her walking round the community market naked for seven days in company of elderly women in broad daylight must be performed

Together with other ritual rites that would also require the mandatory shaving of her pubic hair that is taken to the community shrine as part of desperate measures to appease the ancestors in order to avert imminent doom and calamity in the family, her husband was instructed to bring his wife along for the cleansing on an agreed date, it was confirmed.

A close family member who spoke on condition of anonymity told our correspondent that Mr.Okoyo was rather unwilling to cooperate with the elders of his family even in the face of obvious threats to his life and that of other members of the family as it was gathered that his wife was not willing to perform any of the rituals prescribed by her in-laws.

It was gathered that elders confronted her in order to prevail on her after several failed attempts and weeks of waiting patiently for her to surrender herself for the spiritual cleansing which she blatantly refused to oblige them the opportunity of partaking in the cleansing.

The family source disclosed that she was obstinately unwilling to participate in the entire process because of the public humiliation of having to walk around the community market for 7days in broad daylight .

According to the family source, she confided in an unnamed neighbour that it was rather convenient for her to run away than to further incur more humiliation as a result of the spiritual cleansing.

With time fast running out on the part of the elders and the custodian of the community deity, the elders were said to have instructed some youths in the family to go to her matrimonial home and forcefully bring her for the rituals.

However tt was said that she had already escaped before the arrival of the youths by running with her children leaving her husband to further incur the wrath of the ancestors and calamity that would eventually befall him and members of his family.

At the time of filing this report, the elders of Okoyo family were said to have appealed to members of the general public with useful information that could lead to her whereabouts to immediately come forward for a handsome reward of 10million naira adding that imminent doom and calamity was lurking around in the family
