…Clinches Prestigious Leadership Award

By Tai Anyanwu

Despite economic challenges and a less-than-favorable international image of Nigeria, the PWAN Group, a prominent Nigerian real estate conglomerate, has not only weathered the storm but has triumphed on the international stage.

Recently, at the 2023 Pan African American Leadership Awards held in Atlanta, Georgia, PWAN Group proudly accepted the Leadership Award of Excellence, a testament to its outstanding contributions to society.

It was a thrilling moment as the President of PWAN Group, Dr. Jayne Onwumere, the Amazon who is fondly referred to as Queen of Real Estate, stood very tall among other honourees to receive the award on behalf of the Group.

The Pan African American Leadership Awards, organized by the African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO), honours exceptional leaders of African descent for their remarkable achievements. This year’s ceremony, attended by dignitaries from various continents, showcased PWAN Group as a major award recipient among other distinguished recipients, reinforcing its status as a global leader.

The journey to this international recognition began in 2012 when PWAN Group was founded by Dr. Augustine and Dr. Jayne Onwumere, a time when the couple were homeless, jobless, poor, and needed to raise N300,000 to rent an abode over their heads. From humble beginnings, the couple co-founded the first real estate network Marketing Business model in the world, with a meager start-up capital of N25,000.

The business model has been copied by various competing firms. Hence PWAN Group has garnered numerous accolades, including City People’s Most Impactful Real Estate Firm of the Year (2019). Not quite long ago, the Governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, decorated Dr Jayne Onwumere as one of The First100 Most Influential Women in Lagos State.

Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Jayne Onwumere, PWAN Group defied the economic challenges of the country, steering the company through the COVID-19 pandemic and emerging as a beacon of success in the real estate industry.

The Group’s commitment to empowering others is evident in its transformative business model, which focuses on network marketing.

With over 300,000 entrepreneurs and marketers known as PWAN Business Owners, the organisation has expanded from a single firm to over 40 subsidiaries, boasting over 300 residential and commercial estates across 21 states in Nigeria.

This phenomenal growth within a relatively short period underscores the effectiveness of PWAN Group’s revolutionary network marketing system in the real estate industry.

Dr (Mrs) Vera Oberabor, Group ED Corporate & Events of PWAN Group, emphasised the significance of the international award, describing it as a game-changer for the company. She highlighted the impact of PWAN Group’s empowerment initiatives on entrepreneurs and network marketers globally, acknowledging the role this played in securing the prestigious PAALA award.

Receiving the PAALA award is not just a recognition of past achievements for PWAN Group; it serves as a catalyst for future endeavours. Dr Oberabor expressed that the company sees the award as an encouragement to strive for greater heights. Despite previous accolades in Nigeria, the international recognition in Atlanta reinforces that PWAN Group’s impact is not confined to a single nation.

Dr. Elisha Attai, the PAALA Convener and Founder/Global President of AWLO, praised PWAN Group as a “beacon of hope/catalyst for change.” He emphasized the significance of celebrating exceptional leaders of African descent and their monumental contributions to the growth of communities, both in the USA and the African continent.
