Pro-grazing, ranches protest in Plateau, stage-managed – LG boss
The embattled local government Chairman of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Hon. David Racha, has said that the pro grazing/ranches protest that took place recently in Jos, was stage managed by the state government that is bent on implementing the project against the wishes of the people.
According to Racha, “the state government does not need a law to establish ranches. What the President Buhari-led federal government is canvasing for is grazing reserve not ranches”, he said.
The LG boss is also quoted saying that, the Plateau people have made their position known and governance is all about the decision of the majority of the people and not those occupying government offices.
His words: “We have protested against this bill, the women have also protested against this bill. We took the protest to the office of the deputy governor and the women also took their protest to the Plateau State House of Assembly, so our position is known and the state government should listen to the majority of the people.”
Earlier, the immediate past governor of Plateau State, Jonah David Jang and the Tarok nation in Langtang Local Government Area of Plateau had in separate press statements, kicked against the proposed National grazing reserve bill.
The Tarok nation under the aegis of Yendel O Tarok had said that no inch of Tarok land in Langtang LGA of Plateau state, would be given for the purported grazing reserve.
Speaking with newsmen, the spokesperson of the group, Miss. Tabitha Goselle, said, “We reject the bill in its entirety for the purpose of peace, unity and progress.”
However, it would be recalled that some youths recently protested for the siting of ranches in the state, calling on governor Lalong to implement the policy.
