Privatisation of public amenities across the country, has been described as a killer disease ravaging the Nation and the root of under Development, just as handing the National pension fund to individuals to manage is also a death sentence to citizens.

This however, was the idear of the visiting General Secretary of Public service International Public service International, PSI Mrs. Rosa Pavanelli, who is in the country to under study the working condition of the Nigerian workers in the public and private service.

Other areas of focus on her inspection includes visit to Internally displaced persons IDPs camps and the condition of work by the volunteers..

According to the Secretary General, Public Service International PSI, the country is a Nation full of contradictions in it’s sphere of things with more focus on the welfare of workers.

” Our focus on the suffering of the workers across the country, working without being paid more especially in a country with enemous natural resources. The politicians has done wrong by refusing to pay those who create the wealth”.

She said that her team has been working in several Internally displaced camps IDPs in the North East where it has been discovered that even those working there as volunteers work in horrible conditions.

She further stated that such conditions, also can make workers or volunteers commit more crimes or indulge in other things capable of triggering crises.

On the stolen wealth of the people, she said that so many milti-nationals who have been involved in privatisation programms influences the Presidential elections of countries and such was the case of the United States America recenrly held Presidential and that of Brasil.

On the privatisation of pension funds, Mrs. Pavanelli, agued that Nigeria should not have ventured into the process as such idear sends pensioniers to their early graves.

“We keep fighting this policy in different countries at different levels. We should not privatise our pension fund.

It is another way of killing Government agencies and enrich the private individuals” also I can tell you that Public private partnership PPP, remains another means of inflicting pains on the workers, since a privatised economy has its workers at the mercy of the companies.

It reduces the amount of workers in the labour force and the quality of the work the companies do. When ever any Nation signs PPP agreement, the effectiveness of the youths has been morgaged for another 20-30 years”.

Rosa Pavanelli revealed that record in Europe has shown that PPP arrangement is the root of under Development. South American records has it that about 60 per cent of the people live below porverty line despite policy implementations.

Speaking earlier, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC Comrade Aliyu Wabba, while introducing the visiting General Secretary, posited that part of her being in Nigeria is to add voice to the issue of unwarranted privatisation of Government amenities, which the NLC has kicked against since it’s inception.

Wabba, observed that privatisation of amenities, introduces capital flight in the country and also hands the common wealth to few individuals.

” you need to see the amount of money committed into the privatisation of power sector, such also was witnessed in the privatisation of NITEL, which gave them the ownership of private communication companies both foreign and indegenous.

They also made the country a tax heavens that such conniving companies also invade tax. You can see that our agitation is not just to cry out but to tell them that big people who own mult-nationals does not pay tax in Nigeria but enjoys tax reduction from Nigerian workers used in building the roads they ply and the electricity they use”.
