President Tinubu celebrates Okonjo-Iweala, Adeola, Adesina on UNILAG Honours

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization; Mr. Fola Adeola, co-founder of Guaranty Trust Bank; and Mr. Kola Adesina, Managing Director of Sahara Power Group, on receiving honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
The university honored Dr. Okonjo-Iweala for her groundbreaking leadership as the first African woman to head the WTO and her pivotal financial sector reforms in Nigeria. Mr. Adeola was recognized for his transformative impact on banking and his role in founding FATE Foundation, a mentorship and entrepreneurial support NGO.
Mr. Adesina, an accomplished alumnus, was celebrated for his innovative contributions to Nigeria’s energy sector and his leadership at Sahara Power Group, which operates in 42 countries.
At its 55th convocation on January 16, UNILAG awarded each recipient a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) honorary degree.
President Tinubu expressed profound admiration for these outstanding Nigerians, praising their career achievements and the inspiration they provide to the nation’s youth. In a personal congratulatory note, he commended Mr. Adesina’s transformative leadership in the energy sector, emphasizing his role in advancing sustainable power solutions and fostering innovation.

“This honorary degree is a well-earned tribute to your visionary efforts in elevating engineering and infrastructure standards in Nigeria,” the President remarked.
Recognizing all three honorees, President Tinubu highlighted their relentless pursuit of excellence, hard work, and enduring contributions to national development.
“You remain beacons of hope and innovation for future generations. Your contributions are deeply valued by the government and people of Nigeria,” he stated, wishing them continued success in their endeavors.
