President Buhari leaves for UK on vacation

President Muhammadu Buhari leaves for the United Kingdom today on a short leave, which is part of his annual vacation.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, noted that during the vacation, the President will also undergo routine medical check-ups.

In line with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended),
the President of the Senate, and Speaker, House of Representatives, have been duly communicated.

While away, the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, will perform the functions of the Office of the President.

It will be recalled that the President had proceeded on a similar vacation on June 6, 2016.

The vacation was used to attend to the President’s ear and throat
infection and later returned on June 19, 2016.

The President who was last weekend at The Gambia as part of the ECOWAS mediation team on the political impasse in that country, which he is
co chairing with the immediate past President of Ghana, had since his return and reduced official engagements.

This is just as the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings, which
is usually presided over by the President, had to be shelved on
Wednesday.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who could have presided over was however, away at Davos, Switzerland where he is at the head of the Federal Government delegation to the World Economic Forum.

The Vice President is however expected back early Friday, after the World Economic Forum engagements.
The President is expected to resume work on February 6, 2017.
