Prepare for Severe Weather: NiMet Issues Urgent Warning

By Dooyum Naadzenga
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a critical alert for Nigerians to brace for extreme weather events and significant climate variability in the days ahead, attributing these changes to climate change.
Prof. Charles Anosike, NiMet’s Director-General, emphasized that these extreme weather conditions could lead to extensive damage to infrastructure, agriculture, displacement of communities, and potential loss of life. He made this announcement during a sensitization forum in Abuja, organized in collaboration with First Green White Resources.
Highlighting the media’s vital role, Prof. Anosike stressed that effective communication of scientific data is essential for public preparedness. He encouraged media collaboration to ensure that Nigerians are well-informed and equipped to handle the impending climate challenges.
“The media plays a crucial role in guiding disaster preparedness and food production,” he stated. “Our success depends not only on accurate forecasts but also on how effectively we communicate this information to the public.”
