Police parade 34 suspects in Lagos

No fewer than 34 suspects including the killer of Hector, 2007 Gulder Ultimate Search winner were on Monday paraded by Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Edgal Imohimi.
The suspects who included kidnappers, cultists armed robbers, ritualists and car snatchers were arrested for terrorizing different part of Lagos.
Imohimi said that all the suspects were arrested in the last two weeks in Lagos and some other states stressing that arms and ammunitions, vehicles and other valuables were recovered from the suspects.
On the killer of Hector, one Ismail Adeyemi, CP Edgal said the suspect led the police to his hideout at Sangotedo to recover the arms allegedly used in killing hector.
Recall that Hector was killed on September 4 at his Oko-Oba residence shortly after returning from Muritala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja where he went to pick up a sibling.
Speaking on the arrest of the suspect, the Commissioner of Police said, ” I am glad to announce to you that after weeks of intensive manhunt the principal suspect, one Ismail Adeyemi who pulled the trigger that killed the victim has been arrested and he confessed to the crime and admitted to other various criminal activities within the state.
” The suspect led operatives to Sangotedo gas line Ijoko where his operational revolver pistol with nine rams of live ammunition was recovered. The suspect will soon be charged to court.”
The paraded suspect claimed that he was invited by one Nonso (also known as KK)for the operation stressing that they were five armed men who went to Hector’s house when he was killed.
In his confession, Adeyemi alleged he killed the late Hector by mistake. He said, ” we had gotten information from KK that the man was bringing in Dollars. We went with the intention to rob. We were five of us, three stayed down stairs and I and one other went upstair. We meet his father.
“His father thought we were police officers and he was questioning why we came with a gun and that we should not be parading guns like that. My other gang member who is KK was not pleased with the questioning and he shouted at him to hold his peace.
“The father continued so my colleague shot his father on the shoulder. I guess it was the gun shot that Hector and his brother heard and rushed out of the house. Hector was the first person who came out and I immediately shot him and we ran away with phones and not the Dollar we came for.
“I didn’t even know he was a GUS winner and did not kill him intentionally. Killing him was a mistake, we only wanted to collect the Dollar. ” he said.
Speaking further on the achievements of the command, the Lagos Police Boss said the deployment of more personnel and sustainance of operation in the state command led to the arrest of 19 suspected cultists/armed robbers.
He siad, , six cars stolen in Lagos but were sold off in Enugu were also recovered. Four other vehicles were also recovered.
” We commend Lagosians and the media for partnering with the police to record the success. We promise to sustain the tempo.” he said.
Also paraded was one Tunde Ajibolorunsoro aka professor who was arrested for the alleged kidnap of a 5-year-old girl whom she sold to one Aremu Makanjuola aka Oluwo for N60,000.
According to the CP, investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court as soon as possible.
Imohimi also narrated a new pattern of crime whereby suspected criminals parade themselves as Uber drivers with the intention to rob unsuspecting women that works at night.
The Commissioner therefore warned the public against patronizing unofficial Uber drivers, advising that whoever wish to patronize them should contact them through the right channel with a view to avoid being victim f robbers.
“Two of the suspects arrested have confessed to the crime and they confessed to have collected N87,000 which they withdrew from one of the suspect’ bank.
” Mobile phones and other valuables stolen from the victims were recovered. The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.” he said.
