Police nab suspects in Ozubulu massacre

The Anambra State Police command has announced the arrest of some people it says were involved in the attack on St. Philips Catholic Church in Ozubulu area of the state.

The police had said 11 people died, while 18 others were injured in the attack.

Police spokesperson, Nkeiruka Nwode said the suspects were arrested on Monday but refused to reveal their identities.

“This is a very sensitive investigation so you people (journalists) have to help us,” she said.

“As soon as the investigation is concluded, we will let the public know. But as far as I’m concerned, it definitely has nothing to do with terrorists. It’s just a conflict between individuals.”

Anambra state governor, Willie Obiano, also confirmed the arrest. “We have actually picked up some of the key members,” he said.

“I am confident that we are going to solve this problem and the way we handle it will show them (the perpetrators) that you can’t import your trouble from wherever you are in Africa and bring it to Anambra State.”

The gunman allegedly attacked the church searching for Aloysius Nnamdi Ikegwuonu as part of a drug war that has been ongoing in South Africa.
