Police nab robbery kingpin, 36 suspected cultists in Delta

Determined to eradicate all forms of criminal activities in Delta state, the state police command on Friday, confirmed the arrest of a robbery kingpin in Okpanam community near Asaba, and 36 suspected cultists in Ughelli and Asaba.

Police Commissioner in the state, Hafiz Inuwah, who confirmed this to journalists in Asaba, disclosed that the command arrested the robbery suspect identified as Sammy boy, alias Ak-42, in his hideout in Okpanam community where they recovered weapons and an assortment of charms.

Inuwah said further that the command arrested 30 duspected cultists in Ughelli and Asaba, adding that the suspects were undergoing interrogation with a view to ensuring their fleeing gang members are apprehended.

He disclosed that Sammy boy alias Ak-42 hails from Abakiliki in Ebonyi state, but came to Okpanam Community near Asaba after allegedly robbing and killing a couple, adding that he had been terrorising residents of Okotomi quarters in Okpanam community before nemesis caught up with him.

He was said to have been arrested at a construction site in Okpanam not too far away from his hideout and his attempt to escape was unsuccessful.

Speaking further, Inuwah said that the suspected cultists confessed to be members of Vikings and Eieye Confraternity, saying that they were initiated into the cult groups after they were rusticated from their schools in Ogwashi Uku and Ozoro.

He said that “the robbery suspect confessed to have robbed the Delta state Sports Commission staff of N295,000 and collected the mobile handsets of the man and that of his wife and himself, vandalized the Toyota and also killed a young man while escaping with their loot.”

Meanwhile, the Delta State Police Command has warned criminals and kidnappers operating in the state to relocate elsewhere or face their nemesis.
