The Lagos State Police Command has described as mischievous an online video of a masked woman alleging that one Police Sergeant identified as Marcel Nnabugwu was engaging in fraudulent acts and living above his means.
It was gathered that the woman in the video had alleged the Police Sergeant of owning a landed property located at No. 27, Remi Fani-Kayode Street, GRA in Ikeja, estimated at over N250 Million and that he also uses several exotic car with a customized license plate number titled ‘MCON’.
In the video, she had also estimated the net worth of the Sergeant whom she said is serving in Mopol 18 Owerri at over N2 Billion Naira and called for investigation in the alleged flamboyant lifestyle of the policeman.
Worried about the allegation, the Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal who briefed journalists on the development revealed that the Police High Command had launched investigation into the matter and found out the allegation was baseless and false.
Giving further details on the allegation, Edgal said, ” the woman claimed that the moment the policeman enters into any night club, the club shuts down to all customers to attend to his needs.
” Since the allegation against the police sergeant later identified as Inspector Christopher Marcel Nnabugwu is a serious one and as a responsible and accountable institution, the Nigeria Police Lagos State Command based on the directive of the Inspector General of Police, swung into action to unravel the Non Commissioned Officer being alleged in order to check the veracity of the masked lady’s allegation.
” In the course of our investigation, it was found that there exists indeed one Christopher Marcel Nnabugwu (alias MACON) who was enlisted into the Police Force in the year 2000 and was trained at the Police College Oji River, Enugu State.
” He is presently an Inspector of Police serving at Ogudu Police Division where he is attached to Divisional Crime Branch (DCB) and not a police sergeant serving at Mopol 18 Owerri as alleged.”
The investigation further revealed that Inspector Nnabugwu had never served in the Police Mobile Force (PMF) since his enlistment into the Nigeria Police and that he does not own a car nor landed property in any part of Nigeria or anywhere else in the world.
Speaking further, the Commissioner of Police said, “The picture where the Inspector was wearing a Police Mobile Uniform downloaded by the masked woman from his wall on facebook as attested by the allegation, was the uniform he wore when he went for Mobilization exercise into the PMF for which he was unsuccessful.
” The Inspector is also a proud tenant at No. 125 Old Ota Road, Oke-Odo Agege Lagos where he occupies a room and parlor. It was also discovered that Inspector Nabugwu is currently single owing to his financial status as he is still gathering resources for that purpose.
” He also owns the following bank accounts number with corresponding balance as at Wednesday June 20th, 2018 is FCMB – 2288247017 Bal. N15,000 and ACCESS – 0041131987 Bal. N5,000″
Inspector Nnabugwu who also spoke to journalist expressed shock over the allegation.
On who could possibly be responsible for the act, the Inspector said, ” I really don’t know who is doing this to me. I don’t even keep female friends since my last girlfriend jilted me in 2002.
” she had left the relationship because I was financially not capable of taking care of her. I really thank God for vindicating me through the investigation. “
Edgal therefore maintained that the woman in the video was out to dent the image of not just the Inspector but the Police in general.
” The evil machinations of the woman was not only targeted at the poor, innocent officer but an attempt to malign and dent the image of the Nigeria Police and bring the entire organization into public opprobrium.”
Edgal said the Police are on the trail of the woman who is currently on her heels and that with time, she will be arrested.
