Police arrest suspected armed robbers in Bauchi

The Bauchi state Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers that allegedly carried out an attack on commuters plying the Kano- Maiduguri highway recently.

Briefing journalists at the state command headquarters in Bauchi, the Commissioner of Police, Philip Maku said two suspects who aired and posted mischievous allegations against the police on social media, accusing the policemen sent to the robbery scene of being behind the robbery attack were involved in the robbery.

The police commissioner also refuted a report carried by the Hausa service of the Voice of America (VOA) recently, insinuating that the recent armed robbery attack in Dambam Local Government Area of the state was perpetrated by police officers.

“It may interest the general public to know that discreet investigation in the case has led to the arrest of three suspects, Shehu Abdullahi (20), Babawuro Sani (27) and Wada Wakili Musa.

“The above mentioned suspects conspired with seven others now at large February 18 at about 3am armed with dane guns, machetes, sticks, knives and other dangerous weapons by barricading the Kano-Maiduguri federal highway with logs of wood and attacked a Sharon vehicle with registration number XA-300-ABS conveying passengers travelling from Kebbi to Maiduguri and robbed them of their belongings,” he said.

The police commissioner noted that sequel to the investigation on the audio recording aired on the Voice of America (VOA Hausa) and injurious comments on Facebook, the person that granted the interview to VOA and another person who allegedly made inciting posts on Facebook on the matter have been nabbed.

“I wish to reassure the general public that the command will continue to carry out diligent investigation into this case and ensure that no stone is left unturned regarding this incident. Equally, the command will not relent on its oars in ensuring that the state remains peaceful and secured,” he added.
