Plateau FRSC warns personnel against extorting motorists

The Plateau state Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned its officers and men against extorting money from motorists on the highways.
Acting Sector Commander, Deputy Corps Commander, Ibrahim Sadiq, gave the warning on Friday in Jos.

Sadiq said that anyone caught in the act would be decisively dealt with, stressing that the FRSC abhorres bribery and corruption in whatever form.
He advised motorists to get evidence of harassment and extortion by the personnel and bring same to the nearest FRSC office for action.
According to him, the commission has been working in synergy with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to punish officers that are found wanting.
“Once you get somebody who speaks to you rudely, get the necessary evidence and report them to our offices. We are in synergy with the NHRC and all other relevant agencies to address such issues.

“Get this report and bring it to us and see the kind of action that will be taken. Right now, investigations are ongoing on officers that have been found in connection with bribery within this axis.
“The corps and the commanders are doing a lot to ensure that we sensitise members to the dangers of bribery and corruption and other negative vices,” the acting sector commander said.
He said that every Wednesday the corps organizes an in-house meeting to educate members of staff on the consequences of the vices and urged officers and men of the command to report offenders directly to the corps’ offices, and not to demand for any fees from them.
