Plateau commissioner slumps, dies while jogging with Governor
Samuel Galadima, Plateau Housing and Urban Development Commissioner, is dead.
He died while jogging Wednesday morning with Governor Simon Lalong, at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos. The state Director of Press Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Nanle, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Jos.
“Yes, the commissioner slumped while jogging and was rushed to the Plateau Specialist Hospital, where he died,” he said. Nanle said that the commissioner was gasping for breath by the time he arrived the hospital.
“Doctors tried to stabilise him but could not. We have lost him,” he said. It was not first time this kind of sudden death had happened. A famous case was that of the former governor of Benue Aper Aku who also died while jogging.
Galadima was among 17 other commissioners who were inaugurated on December 16, last year.
His death came less than one month after the deputy Chief of Staff to the governor, Gambo Hawaja, died. Galadima, who was of the Afizere stock, hailed from Jos East Local Government Area of the state.
He had served as commissioner for works during the tenure of Chief Joshua Dariye.
Meanwhile, Governor Simon along has declared a three-day mourning period for the late Commissioner of Housing and Urban Development, Samuel Galadima.
Lalong, in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Bitrus Bature, described Galadima’s death as highly regrettable.
