PDP Sweeps Ondo Assembly Polls
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the majority of the House of Assembly seats in last Saturday’s election in Ondo State.
Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Segun Agbaje, who declared the results at a press conference on Sunday, in Akure, said the PDP won 19 seats, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) had five seats.
Agbaje said the election was marred with low turnout of voters across the 18 local government areas.
He disclosed that violence was recorded in 10 local government areas, thereby, causing pockets of security breaches.
“The election was characterised by low turn-out of voters across the state and pockets of security breaches in some local government areas of Akoko North west, Akoko South West, Ese Odo, Idanre, Ilaje, Irele, Okitipupa, Ondo East, Owo, and Ose”, he said.
He said that the election results in Ilaje constituency I, and II were inconclusive, as the Returning Officer was made to declare the results under duress by armed thugs, adding that the violence in Ilaje local government area, led to the cancellation of results in several polling units in the coastal area.
On the next line of action in the affected ilaje local government area Agbaje said the commission’s headquarters in Abuja would take a final decision after looking at the legal implication of the results declared under duress by the Returning officer.
“There is no way the man could have declared election results there, because of the threat to his life and that of the Electoral Officer and the ad hoc officials.
