PDP chairman, ADC guber candidate, others join APC in Ogun

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state on Tuesday welcomed prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) who dumped their former parties to join the APC

At a colourful ceremony witnessed by who is who in the state chapter of the APC, the party’s National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, said the party will ensure that all new entrants are giving equal opportunities.

Oshiomhole, who was represented by the south west Zonal Secretary of the party, Ayo Afolabi congratulated the state chapter of the party for ensuring that it becomes a beautiful pride for all and called on them to remain focused and ensure that the party remains strong.

“This is the first time in the history of Ogun state where the state will be heading towards a one party state. I congratulate all the decampees for taking firm decisions in joining the progressive train that will move Ogun state to the next level.

“Mr. Governor Sir, you have started well and you will end well,” Oshiomhole declared.

Speaking on why he decided to join the APC, the gubernatorial candidate of the ADC in the March 29 governorship election in the state, Prince Gboyega Isiaka said the decision was to follow the surefooted and progressive approach to governance in the last seven and half months.

He said the Governor Dapo Abiodun administration has recorded impressive strides in the areas of human capital development, social security and laying of other beneficial foundations.

“We have no doubt that we would be doing our dear state a lot of good by joining hands with the ongoing efforts and move Ogun state to the next level of her socio-economic renaissance, particularly, in an increasingly bipolar national political landscape.

“Alignments are not new in politics though many of such have been plagued by deficit of clear ideological orientation and sincerity of purpose.

“The official declaration of our movement and state-wide structure into the APC today is a display of sacrifice, sincerity of purpose, value alignment and willingness to pursue the common good.

“In joining the APC today, we bring value to the table. We are adding thousands of dedicated members; we are adding trusted ideas to governance process and we are bringing intellectual competencies that can be useful in diverse areas.

“We are bringing our abiding values of handwork, integrity and shared prosperity, and we are moving our tested and timeless electoral value to this party,” he said.

Speaking, the Ogun state Governor, Dapo Abiodun, who received the new entrants into the APC fold, said what is being witnessed today is to reiterate his administration’s pledge to run an all-inclusive government including politicians of various political parties and technocrats.

He charged all new and old APC members to sensitize all on the roles and responsibilities expected as party members, urging them to move into the APC ward meetings and conduct themselves creditably.

“This is the best way to join the party, you cannot join a party through the back door; those that said they are coming to APC without following due process are just deceiving themselves, but with these people here today, Ogun state has become a one party state.

“I urge all members of the party to welcome our people across the state with open arms and work together for the growth of this party and success of the government,” the governor stated.

Earlier in his welcome address, the state Chairman of the APC, Chief Yemi Sanusi said he is elated with the high calibre of people joining the party today, attributing it to the people friendly policies of the governor.

He told them that in spite of their new nomenclature, the party will not discriminate against them, urging them to work for the success of Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s administration.

Prominent among the new decampees are the former Deputy Governor of the state, Alhaja Salmot Badru, the governorship candidate of ADC, Prince Gboyega Isiaka, two-term member of the House of Representatives, Apostle Dave Salako, former state Chairman and Secretary of the PDP, Elder Joju Fadairo and Chief Pegba Otemolu respectively.
