PDP, ADC Slam FG Over Kebbi School Attack
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have condemned the recent attack on the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Gunmen reportedly stormed the school early Monday morning, killing the vice-principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and abducting 25 students.
In a statement, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, described the incident as a reflection of the “alarming rise in insecurity” across the country.
He criticised the federal government under President Bola Tinubu, stating that it has “preferred the politicisation of governance over the protection of citizens”.
Ememobong argued that the government must accept responsibility for its failure to secure lives and property.
“When a government fails in its primary duty of safeguarding lives and property, it must accept responsibility and deal decisively with the issues, rather than act aloof or attempt to deflect from the core issues, as this administration has repeatedly done,” the PDP stated.
The party drew attention to recent abductions in Nasarawa, Plateau, Kano, and Katsina states, warning that the pattern of violence contradicts the “hope” promised to Nigerians.
Similarly, the ADC, through its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, called the attack “another painful reminder of the worsening insecurity across the country”.
Abdullahi said the tragedy is part of a consistent pattern showing a government that has “lost control of the security architecture of the country”.
He warned that the abduction must not become a repeat of the Chibok girls’ saga of 2014.
“A government that cannot secure its schools cannot claim any credibility in its promise to protect the Nigerian people,” the ADC said.
The party called on President Tinubu to ensure the abducted students are rescued “without delay” and urged security agencies to respond with “urgency, clarity, and competence”.
Earlier, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, stated that President Tinubu has ordered the swift rescue of the abducted students and directed security agencies to ensure the perpetrators face justice.
