Man Arraigned in Ikeja Over Alleged Cultism, Ammunition Possession
A 30-year-old man, Busayo Kogbodoku, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged involvement in cultism and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Kogbodoku, who resides in the Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful possession of ammunition and membership of a proscribed society.
The prosecutor, Supol Josephine Ikhayere, told the court that the defendant and others still at large allegedly committed the offences on Jan. 26 at about 10:00 a.m. on Tokotaya Street, Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.
She alleged that the defendant conspired with others to belong to an unlawful society, contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Ikhayere further told the court that the defendant was found in possession of one live 32 GRS cartridge, for which he could not give a satisfactory account, contrary to Section 330(a)(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant is a member of the Eiye Confraternity, a proscribed organisation, contrary to Section 2(3)(a)(b)(d) of the Unlawful Societies and Cultism Law of Lagos State, 2021.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mr L. A. Owolabi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N800,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned until March 17 for further hearing.
