Parents beware, defilement is on the increase – CP Owoseni warns
Parents and guardians in Lagos have been called upon to beware and extremely watchful of whom their children – especially the girl child associate with in their neighborhood as cases of defilement is on the increase in state.
This call was made by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Fatai Owoseni recently while parading one Nureeden Oriyomi 32 who allegedly defiled a 12-year-old girl (name withheld) at No. 5 Alhaji Yinusa Street in the Bariga area of Lagos.
The Daily Times gathered that Nurudeen who hails from Kwara state, lived in a rented apartment in the said address where the victim also lived with her parents.
Like Yinusa who abduncted Ese Oruru in Bayelsa two months ago, Nurudeen was said to be a close friend of the family and was fond of the victim.
Sources had it that Nurudeen who is a truck pusher was in the attitude of buying the little girl gifts and sometimes giving her pocket money. He however took his generosity to another level when on a Saturday, he chose to get some gratification for his many kind gestures.
Nurudeen tells how it all started and why he chose the 12-year-old. “I am a truck pusher and I live at Ilaje in Bariga. I slept with the girl just once. She was actually my neighbour’s child. I was even dating her elder sister but after sometime, I noticed her elder sister was only coming to collect money from me and she never allowed me to have fun with her. I had to tell her off and put an end to the relationship.
“Even after calling off the relationship, she was still sending her younger sister to come and collect money from me. At different occasions, she would collect either N200 or N100, depending on how buoyant I was. But I however noticed that she was not remitting the money to her elder sister. I just took it as one of those things since she was always helpful with running my errands.”
Nurudeen further narrated that the girl in question was always coming to his house to visit him and “with all sincerity, I have been admiring her especially whenever she is returning from the bathroom after taking her bath.
“On the day of the incident being Saturday 9th April 2016, I saw her passing, and called her to just know how she was doing. She came into my room and I really did not know what came over me. I just suddenly had the urge to make love while she was still with me.
“I started touching her and she became uncomfortable and wanted to leave. I begged her not to and she stayed back. I removed her skirt and her blouse, including her underwear and then had carnal knowledge of her. She wanted to shout, but I pleaded with her not to. After I had done it, I became conscious of what I had done. I begged her not to tell anyone, and she went home. I did not give her money that day.”
Thinking, he had succeeded with his evil deed, the mother of the young girl found out four days after and alerted the police who arrested him.
“But unfortunately, on Thursday being the 14th April 2016, her mother rushed into my room in the morning shouting and cursing me. I asked her what the problem was and she told me she had found out about my evil deed.
At first I wanted to deny it but then she told me she saw sperm on her daughter’s underwear while she was about going to take her bath. She questioned her and she told her that I had had carnal knowledge of her. I immediately started pleading with her, but she went on to inform the police who came and arrested me the same day. I am really ashamed of what I have done, and hope the girl and her family can forgive me. It is the handiwork of the devil.”
According to the police, the victim who is traumatised is being medically attended to at the Mirabel Medical Centre in Lagos, while the police is rounding up the investigation to charge the suspect to court for defilement.
