Palliatives: FCTA receives 7 truckload of food from FG

*35 more to be delivered today
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has received seven truckload of food items from the federal government for onward distribution to the poor and vulnerable people within the city and satellite towns.
Performing the handing over of the items, the Minister of Humanitarian and Disaster Risk Management, Hajiya Sadiya Faruk, explained that 35 more trucks will arrive the city today (Thursday) from Lagos state.
While noting that the gesture was to cushion the economic hardship faced by residents of the FCT following the lockdown order to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the minister said the food items include 10 trucks of rice, 30 trucks of grains and two trucks of vegetable oil amongst others.
Faruk, who noted that five trucks of rice and two trucks of vegetable oil have already been handed over to the FCT administration, also said another five trucks of rice and 30 trucks of grains will arrive the city on Thursday from Lagos state.

“We have just hand over five trucks of rice now, five trucks are on their way and two trucks of vegetable oil and grains from strategic grain reserve are also on their way, by tomorrow FCTA will receive it.
“For the grains, we are looking at about 30 trucks,” she said.
While receiving the items, the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello commended the federal government’s gesture to the FCT in this trying period through the provision of the food items.
The ministers however, urged all residents to stay calm and obey the stay at home order to curtail the spread of the virus as government is aware of their plight and will continue to do all it can to arrest the pandemic.
Also speaking, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Ramatu Aliyu, thanked President, Muhammadu Buhari for finding FCT worthy to benefit from the federal government intervention having being the second state with the highest number affected by the COVID -19 pandemic.
Aliyu, who is also the chairman of the FCT palliative committee, revealed that the administration will use the same chain it adopted to distribute the FCT palliative to carry out the distribution of the federal government’s intervention to the residents of the FCT.
