Oyo resources not needed in my business-Makinde.

Oyo State Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, Seyi Makinde has described the insinuation in some quarters that he would divert the resources of the state to his business should he be elected as governor this Saturday as bad campaign.

The governorship hopeful stated this while reacting to an allegation that he would use the state resources to repay all his philanthropic gestures, stressing that if he was looking for money, he had no business coming into politics.

He recalled that he had commenced his philanthropic activities as far back as year 2001 and was not stopping yet, wondering how much could the state resources offset out of what he had committed to the gestures, which were still ongoing.

Makinde disclosed that his passion to help others informed his philanthropic activities and not for any material or political gain, adding, “it is in a bid to ensure that many more people benefit from my God-given idea that informed my coming into politics.

“My concern is to touch as many lives as possible, but, how many people can I reach as an individual and how many people can reach me even if I have the means? But, with the instrumentality of the government, we will have access to so many people, that’s all”, he added.

The governorship hopeful restated his commitment to war against poverty which he said remain the greatest challenge confronting the people of the state.

He recalled that he was not born with silver spoon and had a taste of what poverty was in his growing up years, but, with education and grace of God, he was able to fight and conquer poverty.

“What I have been telling the people of the state in all my campaigns has been that if by the mercy of God, I could grow a company established over a decade ago with just N50,000 into a business empire today that worth several billions without being immodest and with offices in four different continent across the globe, the fortune of Oyo State can be turned around if given the opportunity”, he added.

Makinde hinted that the unimpressive performance of the nation’s crude oil in the international market which had of recent affected the nation’s economy would likely continue like that for the next two years, noting that only a leader that could think out of the box‎ would survive which “is why our state needs somebody with fresh ideas and which I’m ready to offer”
