Osun West election victory, starting point for PDP

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George has said that the victory of the party in the last Saturday Senatorial Election in Osun West is a starting point saying more victories will come for the party in future elections, especially in the forthcoming local governments election in Lagos State.

Speaking with journalists in Lagos Monday, George said PDP is back to winning ways, warning that the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government in Lagos State should not attempt to manipulate the local government election.

“For those who are saying the PDP is dead, the party’s victory in Osun West election should be an eye opener that PDP should not be underrated.

“The July 22 date fixed for the LG poll remains sacrosanct and we will take any postponement as an attempt to rig the poll.

“The victory is for the people of Osun West who are tired of Aregbesola’s maneuvering. You cannot fool the people all the time,” he said.

“It is a positive sign, PDP has learnt its lessons. We have realised the mistakes of the past,” he further said.
On the flood ravaging Lagos, George urged Governor Akinwumi Ambode to put urgent measures in place to safeguard lives and properties of Lagosians that have come under serious threat.

“From the streets to the sitting rooms, from the alleys to the bedrooms, the flood have inundated our lives, grounding normal businesses, halting our programmes, vitiating our plans, preventing our children from going to schools. Thousands have been rendered homeless, hundreds of millions of properties have been destroyed. Lagos is indeed in a sorry, mournful phase. Homes are being destroyed. Roofs are shattered, vehicles drowned in the sweeping rush of floods, ” he said.

Urging the Lagos State government to stop the Sand filling craze which seems to have become a norms in waterlogged areas of the state, George lamented that the state is not only sinking pretty fast, but also slipping beyond the water level .
