Osun Guber Election: Appeal Court Reserves Verdict

The Federal Court of Appeal, sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Monday, reserved judgement on the appeal filed by Senator Iyiola Omisore, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the August 9, 2014 Osun State governorship election.
The court, with a fivemember panel, headed by Justice Gana Mshelia, withheld judgement against the ruling of the election petition tribunal held in Osun State, which nullified the petition.
In the sitting, which lasted several hours, Justices Mshelia refused to announce the date for final judgement on the appeal filed by Senator Omisore, but said the date would be communicated to all parties involved in the matter through their lead counsels.
Omisore had appealed against the ruling of the Election Petitions Tribunal delivered on February 6, 2014, and he is asking the appeal court to set aside the ruling of the tribunal.
He had argued that the tribunal, headed by Justice Elizabeth Ikpejime, failed to examine properly the issues raised in his petition.
The PDP governorship candidate had approached the Elections Petitions Tribunal, following his defeat in the August 14 governorship election, challenging the results of the election in 17 local government areas of the state, where he argued that there were electoral malpractices.
At the hearing on Monday, the lead Counsel to Senator Omisore, Mr. Alex Isiyoung (SAN), argued that the tribunal erred in its ruling, as it failed to examine all the allegations and issues raised by the petitioner.
