Orji pledges effective representation of constituents at Senate

The immediate past governor of Abia State and now senator representing Abia Central Senatorial district, Theodore Ahamefule Orji, has vowed to do all he can to represent his constituency well at the Senate.

Orji made this affirmation recently in Umuahia as the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) honoured him after its 13th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, stating that the matters that concern his constituency in particular and Abia State in general are his priority at the red chamber.

According to him, he has no other business at the Senate than the welfare of his constituents, hence his resolve not to toy with anything that will affect them positively.

Sen. Orji, who was represented by a former commissioner in the state, Longman Emeka Nwachuckwu, at the occasion where the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, was also honoured, congratulated the parliamentarian staff over their successful NEC in the state, urging them to continue to uphold the principles of effective parliamentary duties at their respective parliaments.

Longman Emeka Nwachukwu used the occasion to describe Sen. Orji as the man of the people who during his regime as governor of the state, Abia was peaceful, while there was harmony between the executive and other arms of government.

Nwachukwu recalled that the foundation Sen. Orji laid in the state as the governor was a lasting legacy, pointing out that while at the Senate, Sen. Orji has sponsored several bills, even as first timer, while also empowering his constituents and contributing to the development of the state.

Also speaking, the state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, who was represented by the state Head of Service, Viviene Uma, commended the state House of Assembly for its support in making the state governable.

The governor said the House has assisted in ensuring equity in the state, stating that he has managed prudently the bailout fund, as well as the Paris Refund for the state workforce.

Earlier in his address, the National President of Parliamentary Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Comrade Bala Hadi, said Sen. Theodore Orji was honoured because of his packages for the state House of Assembly while he was the governor of the state, as well as the one-grade level promotion he also gave to Abia workers among others, especially his support for the autonomy of the Houses of Assembly in the country.

According to Comrade Bala, Gov. Okezie Ikpeaz was honoured because of his support for made-In-Nigeria products, as well as the cordial relationship existing between the executive and the legislature in the state.

Fielding questions from newsmen, National Treasurer and Chairman of the Award Committee, Comrade Collins Onwukwe, said Sen. Orji was chosen at the Abuja meeting of the association after critical consideration of what the senators have done, especially the one-grade level promotion to Abia workers, disclosing that at the mention of the name of Sen. T. A. Orji, he was unanimously chosen based on merit.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, he said, was honoured based on his made-in-Abia initiative, while the speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Adams Dabotorudima, was also honoured.
