Ondo New Acting Chief Judge, Akeredolu, to be sworn in today

Justice Olarenwaju Oluwatoyin Akeredolu has been appointed as the new Acting Chief Judge of Ondo State. Justice Akeredolu was appointed by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu according to the appointment letter obtained at the weekend by journalists.
Her appointment which would elapse in three months takes effect from Saturday 22nd of July till Saturday 21st October 2017. She will be sworn in today (Tuesday) at the Coca Conference Hall of the Governor’s office in Akure.
Justice Akeredolu latest appointment is in accordance to section 271 (15) of the 1999 Nigeria constitution as amended.The appointment was also based on the recommendation of the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Daily Times gathered Justice Akeredolu ‘Tosin Ajuwon was also Head of Criminal Division in the Ondo State High Court and next in line as the most senior Judge.
The female Acting Chief Judge took over from the embattled Justice Temitayo Osoba whose tenure has since expired.
The appointment of Justice Akeredolu came after months of legal tussle seeking the removal of Justice Osoba from the position. Osoba took over from the former Justice Olasehinde Kumuyi and was later appointed in acting capacity by the immediate past Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
Femi Emmanuel Emodamori, a human rights lawyer based in Akure had been challenging the eligibility of Justice Osoba as the Acting Chief Judge of the State even in the face of alleged forgery in her credentials and academic records.
Emodamori who instituted the suit at the Ondo State High Court Akure petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC) and also called for her removal from office after the three months period of her tenure expired without any valid renewal.
The human rights lawyer also repeatedly asked the Governor to do the needful by playing according to the constitution in choosing a substantive Chief Judge for the state .He has also advised Governor Akeredolu to reconstitute the State Judicial Commission based in line with practice and recommendation of the National Judicial Commission (NJC).
