Ondo govt promotes over 14,000 civil servants

The Ondo State government has revealed that a total of 14,016 deserving civil servants have been promoted between 2017 and 2018.

According to the Chairman, Ondo State Civil Service Commission, Dr. Afolabi Adewakun at a press briefing on Monday in Akure, the state capital, the promotion exercise affected officials from grade level 02 to grade level 17.

Dr. Adewakun also disclosed that 3091 civil servants in the main stream of the state’s civil service have received their letters while those within the state’s boards, parastatal and agencies of government are 10,925 in total.

“One special feature of this exercise is the early approval for the exercise given by the Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. He gave the approval as early as August, and you will agree with me that this is unprecedented.

“Hitherto, such approval comes up around October/November of the promotion year and the exercise would not be completed until December, usually very close to the end of the year.

“I am sure that by now most, if not all, must have received their letters of promotion.

“Usually, promotion exercise for Senior Officers, GL. 07 – GL. 17 are handled directly by the commission. A total of one thousand, seven hundred and forty-two (1,742) officers were promoted based on the briefs forwarded the commission by the Head of Service, Officer of Establishment and Training and various Ministries and Extra Ministerial Departments (MEDs).”

While lauding the effort of the Governor for the timely approval which allowed for a seamless exercise, the Chairman maintained that it will not only ensure improved productivity within the service but will also boost the morale of civil servants in the state.

“Since the inception of the Akeredolu’s administration in February 2017, the welfare of workers has always been prioritised through motivation and incentives like this promotion.

“This has birthed higher productivity leading to better service delivery for the people of the state, he graciously approved the promotion of all deserving officers in the Public Service for the year 2018 despite economic challenges being experienced in the country at the moment.

“Over the years, the Civil Service Commission had used the annual promotion exercise to inform and enlighten the members of the public on its mandate as enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, under section 197,sub-section 1,” he stated.

He also confirmed that the promotion of the affected officials take effect from 1st of January 2018, while the financial benefits commenced on 1st October 2018.
