Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has congratulated the publisher, Mr. Steve Ekiri-Mekiriuwa Ashien, management and staff of Ika Weekly Newspaper on the occasion of their 10th anniversary.

In a statement on Wednesday in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Aniagwu, Governor Okowa lauded Ika Weekly’s ten years of serving the community which he described as a great achievement.

The Governor noted that the media plays a crucial role in any society, delivering information, reporting and making comments in a meaningful, relevant and constructive way.

“The Ika Weekly continues to deliver balanced local and national news. At times the news and comments may not be palatable which in turn makes leaders and those concerned to evaluate and reassess their positions. This makes for vibrant and stimulating discussion and community-building. Through this process political leaders and community leaders are also held accountable,” he said

Governor Okowa further said: “Providing information about developments and happenings in Ika nation and Delta State remains an important element of development.

Over the years, Ika people have enjoyed a good relationship with your paper and I urge you to continue in your quest for excellence, adding “The special features of your publication has helped shed light onto many aspects of our S.M.A.R.T. Agenda and the Ika heritage that your readers may not have been aware of.

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate you on your 10th year anniversary and i wish you well in your endeavors and trust you will continue to serve the community well,” the governor wrote.
