Obi To Tinubu: Abandon French Retreat, Return Home

By Agency Report

As Nigeria grapples with an escalating wave of bloodshed, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 Presidential Election, Peter Obi has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to return home to resume duties.

In a blistering statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle monitored in Abuja yesterday, Obi decried the president’s ongoing stay in France amid what he described as a full-blown national security emergency.
The former Anambra governor warned that the country is in flames while its leader is absent.

Said Obi; “In the two weeks you have been away, over 150 Nigerians have been killed in Plateau, Zamfara, and other states. The CEO of the troubling company called Nigeria is retreating in a faraway land.”

From renewed insurgent strikes in Borno to deadly massacres in Plateau, abductions in the South East, and pipeline explosions threatening lives in the Niger Delta, Obi painted a chilling picture of a nation in free fall.

“What kind of retreat is happening in a country like France, where peace has already been secured, while our people are dying daily without help?”

Obi’s statement, in some quarters is being hailed as a bold and timely intervention in a moment of deep national anxiety.

Across the country, citizens are increasingly disillusioned with what they see as a federal government missing in action. Communities are forming vigilantes to protect themselves. Fear and frustration are spreading.
“This is no longer about political affiliation. This is about leadership – visible, courageous, and present leadership,” Obi stressed.

He urged President Tinubu to abandon diplomatic pleasantries and return home immediately to lead from the front, take responsibility, and reassert control over Nigeria’s deteriorating security architecture.

“Governance is not press statements. It must be seen. It must be felt. The people must feel safe,” Obi stressed.
